Holy fediverse!

Tehgingey@lemmy.ca · 36 pts · 3y

There's at least two in the sequel for sure

I liked Alien3. It's my third favorite, but it has all the charm and environment that the first two do.

kilodelta@lemmy.world · 31 pts · 3y (5 replies)

The complete hopelessness of Alien3 is fantastic. The worst of humanity. A run down facility with nothing that works. No help from the outside until -spoiler-.

Alien3 looks like an industrial music video. And I quite like the score.

(I love this movie)

Alien3 looks like an industrial music video.

That's because it was the first feature film David Fincher directed. Before that he had only ever directed (very good) music videos.

JoMiran@lemmy.ml · 7 pts · 3y

The film had so much studio executive intervention that Fincher has all but disavowed it.

RecursiveParadox@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y (1 reply)

...and because they did not use the original script they hired William Gibson to write.

FlyingSquid@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

I enjoyed that script. My favorite part is where they go into the garden and all the plants have turned into xenomorph plants.

thesprongler@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

Fincher continues to nail that nihilistic feel in all of his films. Even his animated LD+R short "Bad Traveling" is dripping with his style.

I'm a big fan Prometheus, myself.

victron@programming.dev · 10 pts · 3y

So I'm not alone. Not my fav by any achance, but I like it.

JoMiran@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 3y

I like William Gibson's Alien 3 more. Especially the second draft.

EtherWhack@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y (1 reply)

I never really understood all the hate for it. So what, they refreshed the cast aside from Ripley. The way they did it also was also completely believable to me. >!I wouldn't have expected a 10y/o girl to have aged 6 years in cryo sleep either. With human curiosity and corporate greed, wanting to preserve the xenomorphs by any means necessary was also an obvious eventuality to me!<

howsetheraven@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3y

Killing off the main characters off screen I'm the first minute of the movie probably wasn't the best decision.

NatakuNox@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 3y

I think of them as one long movie

Alien$

ClaireDeLuna@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 3y

I honestly hated Aliens. I watched Alien and loved it to death, the sound, environment, tension were all really cool. Crew Members felt like people, Ripley felt real, and I liked how it didn't focus on Ripley from the beginning and just let the story build itself.

Aliens was just a bunch of headstrong generic idiots along with other stupid action tropes. There was nothing about it I found redeeming beyond the antiquity of practical effects. But that seems to be a minority opinion because people really love Aliens and Alien 3 etc. I just felt annoyed and dissatisfied with the 2nd movie.

EthanRDoesMC@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 3y

I like that there’s enough time between the reviews to have watched the movie

Aliens was when I realized how perfect James Cameron is with sound. Got to see a film reel in a real theatre about five years ago and it was awesome.
