Lemmy and ActivityPub devs couldn't make federated votes work otherwise. Idk if it's even posssible without some extensive cryptographic operations.

It's the way federation works. It's usually hidden by Lemmy except to administrators but anyone could make their own fediverse software that shows whatever they choose.

I was just happened upon this recently, it does not work for everything, it seems to work in my example.

Someone made a post that said something like 'drowning kittens is bad' , it had one downvote, and I wondered who would disagree with that statement? This user is who.
