Awhile ago another user requested that we list European Friendica instances in the sidebar of this community, and I had to go researching.
Friendica has a pretty cool map and a list on their page of all the instances, but not all of them are actively maintained or open for registrations, so I had to take a better look at them.
Criteria:
- signups enabled
- european / hosted in europe
- more than few months old
- friendica version up to date
- more than 0 active users (many 0 active user servers seem to be more "play around with friendica -servers or single self hosted account servers)
Surprising amount of European instances, but sadly many of them didn't meet the criteria. Here's the list I came up with:
Austria: friendica.io
Italy: poliverso.org
Germany: piratenpartei.social, anonsys.net
I'm looking for recommendations and hoping someone here knows friendica bit better and could recommend a german instance or two!

Edit2: fixed a mistake. Poliverso is an italian friendica instance, just hosted in france.

I did find some hosted in netherlands (this is what I used initially to find instances, but also check the list view on that page)
Sadly none of the dutch ones met all the criteria listed in this post :(

Seems like anonsys is hosted in Austria, could put it into austria category as well since we also got a recommendation for piratenpartei.social as a german instance, so we can suggest multiple (also loma.ml!).

Edit: ah damnit, loma.ml is by invitation only. But anonsys looks good!

It has been an invite-only instance, but it should be open for months now since the invitation system was broken.
Anyway: Big thumbs up for loma.ml - it's excellently maintained and the support is more accessible than your ISP.
