I was going through "fantasy books" on amazon and was surprised to see that most of them are written by women, and the ratio is not even close. I was kind of expecting the opposite.
Does anyone know why this might be the case?

Because women are treated as equals and taken seriously in fantasy

So, if my memory serves me right. It's just easier for women, than men, to publish books in general at the moment.
"Men were more likely to be employed in executive level positions than in any other capacity, with women making up more than 80 percent of marketing and publicity staff and literary agents." - https://www.statista.com/statistics/1218777/publishing-industry-workforce-by-gender-us/

There are way more men in Sci-fi so it probably balances out. And are you referring to all published fantasy or the top writers?
