Because of well-recognized database issues caused by extremely inefficient database queries, Friendica, all servers, experience long stalls and frequent periods of poor response times.
The only way to really fix this until, and if, the developers ever deal with this, is to spend about $500/month more for the server, which I cannot do.
But, I want to try something this weekend to see if it will help. I currently use an 8 GB database cache. This weekend, I'm going to scale up the server and will add another 16GB to the cache. I hope that these inefficient queries, instead of running hours, may complete in reasonable times, and we'll all enjoy better response times.
Any time I touch the database, I need to make cold backups first, so the server may be down for a couple of hours 2025-06-28.
