Yesterday was brutal and I just have to share part of the craziness.
I had 90 minutes to prepare for an all-day work session on Teams that included database migration and application upgrade. Complicated application, development environment. Almost got it ready and was able to keep up through the day.
Mid-day the backup manager had to leave and that put me in backup-backup manager mode. Lots of balls in the air.
Then the forking smoke detector nearest to me in the house decided it needed a new battery. And I couldn't reach it even from the top of the step stool. Poor Miss Melody went and hid under the bed and I had to contend with being on a Teams meeting with a smoke detector beeping every minute or so.
I survived and lived to tell the tale. Oh, and to end the day, Microsoft patches came out yesterday and I discovered that #SQLServer guys and gals are not going to be happy this month.
Today better be quiet!

@bethroots@mindly.social Whew, what a day to say the least! That smoke alarm beeping like they do is so annoying. I hate it, and so do my cats.

@cliffwade@infosec.exchange Beeping smoke detectors make me nuts even on the best of days. It turned out that it had failed somehow. We had just replaced the batteries in March? April? A new battery didn't fix it. Fortunately we had a spare detector. I'm compulsive about having working smoke detectors!

@bethroots@mindly.social Same. They drive me crazy.
Funny story on my end here. My next door neighbor almost always keeps one or two of her windows open just a little bit, all year round. She's not one to replace the battery in her smoke detector at all. I go outside and when I'm in the yard, I can hear hers beeping, and my OCD goes crazy wild. Not even my house and I can't stand to hear it.
