A random Hollyhock decided to grow in our yard!

I didn't plant it. I did water it last year when it was just a few random leaves though

Huh, I thought those were weeds and had been getting rid of them before they bloom.

I googled it and apparently they only bloom the second year

A weed is just a plant you don’t want, unless your jurisdiction has a list of “noxious weeds”.

Dandelions aren’t sprayed for in our city anymore, so neighbors also can’t complain if yours are “out of hand”, they aren’t a weed, they’re a cool little plant, but others will say they are weeds.

Hollyhocks are actually biennials (or short-lived perennials) which is why they only bloom in the second year, but they self-seed like crazy so once you have em in your garden, you'll probably have them forever unless you activly remove them.

Looks like you've been chosen to lead the next Nobilis game!

(It's a TTRPG, the game moderator role is called the Hollyhock God, because Hollyhock means "pride" in the language of flowers.)
