Explanation: While we often think of humankind's advantage over the animal kingdom as being technological or in the form of superior intelligence, an early advantage was persistence hunting, wherein we, as bipeds who are capable of sweating to reduce our body heat, can literally walk down prey which lacks our advantages.

Silly me. I clicked through to expound, only to find that you're the OP and so, of course, you're already there with the lore drop. ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿผ๐Ÿค“

We're the terminators of the animal kingdom. We never stop coming.

otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 5 pts · 1y (4 replies)

Yeah, that's how we're going extinct, too. No one eats the overage. ๐Ÿฅน

FaceDeer@fedia.io · 5 pts · 1y (3 replies)

That's not really how these things work. It's not going to be like someone eats the very last edible thing one day and then a week later all of humanity is dead.

otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 1y (2 replies)

I meant the extra people... (ie. "always coming")

FaceDeer@fedia.io · 12 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Well that's even less likely to cause our extinction, by definition.

I think people often conflate "the collapse of the comfortable familiar civilization I'm currently part of" with "the literal extinction of the human species, full stop, the end." The two situations are not remotely comparable.

Interesting take, considering the collapse of civilization itself on a global scale would also include said species' recall of the term "extinction", much less the adjacent topics, technology, et al.

Your contrarian rebuttal hinges on the barest of linguistic technicalities, whereas my point (which began as a lowbrow joke, let's not forget) implies the worldwide annihilation of collective humanity itself... but that's "correct" enough for you?

You're leaning on an "um, akshually"? Really? ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ FFS.

I'd watch that Wizard of Oz, for sure.

  • Legolas: Scarecrow
  • Aragorn: Tinman
  • Frodo: Dorothy
  • Sam: Toto
