I remember discussing this with a colleague when it first happened, and we both agreed the most likely explanation was CP.

I'm still astonished that our top cop was dumb enough to have that on his work computer though.

Not a huge fan of the police, but they are one of the few groups who may actually have legitimate reasons for having that material on their machines.

We should really withhold judgement until an investigation determines whether this was related to a criminal investigation in some way, or part of his personal wank bank.

In NZ, criminals are punished after they've been tried and sentenced, not before. They're only detained before trial if they pose a flight risk.

He was already suspended due to another matter, so wasn't working anyway.

Also, you pretty much never end up in custody because of non violent crimes before trial.
