This article could have been written at any time between 1998 and today.

My dream job is taking a 50% paycut to do literally anything else that requires 20% of the stress and gets me out of the house. Which could be damn near any other job. But I also like money so here I am

I'm in the same boat. I know I'll survive with 50% of my current pay if i have a less stressful job but then all IT jobs are stressful, some just pay way worse for the same type of work. Finding a job which won't turn stressful after a while is really hard.

That tracks with my experience as that time period covers the start of my career.

That being said, it goes back even farther.

Not in IT. IT was a sleepy job where you used to babysit a mainframe or two that never broke. Shit hit the fan when PCs entered the fray.

I sadly missed those days :(

Haha no shit but it never gets better no matter how many leave and cite too much work as the reason. Hr/management just plugs their ears and says “maybe another t-shirt day a month will fix this”

Same here, today I have another application

Ngl I dream about becoming a barista in a small coffee shop but I couldn't survive on that salary. Maybe if I rent a 9 square meter apt lol

I think I saw a 9m² luxury 2pc bathroom apartment in Vancouver for rent. Follow your dreams.

delirium@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 2y

9m 2pc

??? did they divide it by height or they count a bathroom as a separate piece lol

IT had the stupid grind culture well before it became a meme.
