Crossing into the US at St-Bernard de Lacolle - border is “virtually empty”

To be honest I crossed the border many times pre-covid and sometimes it was busy and sometimes it looked just like this.

That's not totally abnormal. The reason you've seen videos of it being packed with bumper to bumper traffic is because it was unusual. It functions exactly like a toll highway, getting stopped and searched is not the norm.
