I've had raccoons before and trust me, they only look cute.
Imagine a fat cat that can open cupboards and loves to steal anything shiny or interesting and hoard it under the couch... loose change, tv remotes, hair bands, pens and pencils, keys.
It is funny giving them sugar cubes or ice cream though... they'll try and wash it and be very unhappy when it disappears in the water. Sadly they learn quick and that trick only works a few times at best.
