U.P. is a reference the great Joycean work, Ulysses. Dennis Breen receives a postcard with just those letters. It excites his madness. Perhaps it is a reference to in ability to satisfy his wife in husbandly manner. Perhaps it's a reference to You urinate, You're no good, You put your fingers up your anus, and You can't get it up any more. Or simply, a reference to Ulysses and Penelope. IOU.
Too many Sovereign Citizens live there. They absolutely refuse to let the region be named, and threaten any politician who tries to do so. Supposedly, this is mandated in the Magna Carta, but scholars are unable to determine the part of the document which supports this reasoning.
They think that living in the “unnamed principality” (or the UP, as it is often called) lets them skirt all kinds of laws, but ironically, often demand a public defender when arrested for violating said laws.
I claimed it for Nathaniel Merriweather a long time ago, in the name of Johan Dandifop and the League of Well-Dressed Gentlemen. We call it Bobsmithville. All the residents are aquatic aficionados.
Man, it looks like sheer laziness that they can fit "Kentucky" into its state, but "Alabama" gets a pointer line. You're telling me that you can't do the exact same thing you did with "Georgia" there?

Or "Bay Area" so people can wonder if the speaker means San Francisco, Tampa, Chesapeake, etc.

The fact that Michigan gets Isle Royale too boils my blood as a Minnesotan. They're just greedy expansionists!

Wisconsin should launch a special military operation on Michigan to take that land as it has ethnic Wisconsinites there.
