Just got banned from the lemmy.ml world news for saying Mexico is a narco state and ignoring the subsequent dogpile of hexbear users

Pretty pathetic, especially considering the users who insulted me got no repercussions.

Just another reason not to take mods seriously.

Edit: Apparently mental illness is a common trait among hexbear users. I hope they receive the help they need. This isn't healthy for them.

Hi this is your instance admin here,

How many racist shit heads do I have to ban before they realize that my instance is not a good one for them?

Well, at least one more. Bye-bye.

technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 33 pts · 1y (2 replies)

YDI. I would definitely ban someone for racist tropes that encourage the failed "drug war". Grow up.

haloduder@thelemmy.club · -26 pts · 1y (1 reply)

I never mentioned race.

I guess you're the kind of person who just makes up things when they hear truths they don't like?

Either way, I will also block you as well.

Kinda like anyone who believes that the war on drugs is a good thing?

Because it's beyond trivial to prove that, so anyone disagreeing will either have chosen not to believe in the truth, or they're massively cognitively compromised.

Which one are you?

I couldn't find the Mexico comments, but Mexico is like several countries in one. These the developed one that you could compare to Europe, developing side that many think of, and the neglected very poor side. Parts of those could be described as narco states due to the influence cartels have. Not that their national guard is a push over and doesn't push back either. There is a subculture that is called narco culture. Its not really their fault being economical suppressed and having a neighbor that has high demand for drugs and supplies arms (sometimes even training) to cartels.

KIKILOVE@piefed.social · 0 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Remember when Obama just gave guns to the cartel in order to "trace" them but then they forgot to trace them?

lmao

Yeah, fast and furious, and it doesn't change what I said.

Ah yes, using mental illness as a perjorative.

For quality feedback you'd best follow posting guidelines 1, 3, 4 and 5

JubilantJaguar@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y (5 replies)

OP did not follow guidelines so it's hard to judge this case. But I just went thru their posting record (cursorily - maybe I missed something) and I don't see anything objectionable that merits banning from any community. Just pretty mainstream opinions, well articulated, somewhat polite. So FWIW I agree with OP that this looks more like a case of opinion-based dogpiling. It confirms the echo-chamber reputation of Lemmy and it's not a good look for newcomers.

SinAdjetivos@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y (4 replies)

It's important to remember that "mainstream" is not mutually exclusive with "hate speech".

To the main point; the term "narco state" has been used for decades as a justification for the USA to build prison camps for brown people. In each of OP's responses they consistently repeat, somewhat politely, dog whistles and insists that their well articulated racism, ablism and phobias be normalized.

It’s important to remember

This preamble should be used to preface falsifiable facts, not subjective opinions - IMO, of course! I'm very familiar with the position you outline. Whatever the substance of your argument, you're not going to convince people you're right - which is the only way to change anything in the democratic system - by aggressively shutting them down. I already know your response to this, and also that in this community you'll be preaching to the converted be writing it, so maybe best not waste your effort. We will agree to disagree.

SinAdjetivos@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y (2 replies)

How is a patronizing "We will agree to disagree" not "aggressively shutting them down"?

I do not agree and you do not speak for me. I put in the effort above because it seemed like you were simply missing some cultural context.

Am I understanding correctly that you perfectly understood the context/subtext and jumped to their defense anyways?

JubilantJaguar@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 1y (1 reply)

On the style, if I said, "It's important to remember" and followed that by my personal subjective opinion, I guarantee that you would object to that.

On the substance, you understand correctly. Your position is that a literal majority of the population can be "hateful". I'm familiar with this radical idea and I disagree with it. Hate is a powerful word for an exceptional phenomenon. If vast numbers of people believe, say, that uncontrolled immigration is a problem, or that some societal norm (choose your hotbutton subject) is moving too fast, then we need to find a way to talk to them without branding them "hateful". The large majority of humans are not hateful, by definition. As I said, we can agree to disagree.

At least you're aware that you're the kind of person that supports slavery, genocide and other various evils when it's in vogue?
