tldr; After some research I found that including ?kbg=-1 to the url disables the AI feature. So, you can disable AI permanently using the following as your search engine configuration (which is available at least on Librewolf)
https://duckduckgo.com/search?q=%25s&kbg=-1
or you can temporary disable the feature by including -noai to your search query.

Been using ddg for over 4 years and I feel it is getting slower these days. Or is it just me?
Startpage and other search engines loads fine. Also, I'm using Librewolf so the problem is not the cache.

Is the AI on?
I don't stay signed in, don't even have an account, and I've noticed it randomly pops up sometimes and it takes a second, others it skips it and it's instant.

add
-noaito your searches to make sure it’s off even if you’re not signed in (and in private browsing)fin@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 1y
This was the problem. With noai it started loading very quick. Thank you so much.
I really didn't mean to say AI bad through this post but... this is horrible

I’ve had the same problem recently. Using firefox with uBo. Any time i search for images it takes 10 seconds to load the results. I refuse to use google so i’ll deal with it but it’s pretty annoying.

Have not had this issue, personally.
