In retrospect, that part about the sub having all sorts of improvised components is a bit worrisome. Seems like something could have easily failed. And the fact they are not even making money gives motive for cutting corners.
He also said on Twitter that there are 7 redundant ways for them to surface. If they haven't been able to use one, my bet is on a failure and that they are dead.
