I'll have to post a geiger counter roundup when I get one. The uranium glazes often have higher readings as the uranium is concentrated on the surface, as opposed to glass where it's mixed all throughout.
I don't have a geiger counter (yet), I just bring along UV Flashlights, like these ones. Having the two wavelengths (365 & 395) helps a lot for identifying the UG:
395 is good for identifying the transparent uranium glass. Glass colored with other chemicals/minerals don't glow the same way.
365 is good for identifying the uranium-glazed ceramics (like this piece) and the opaque/custard uranium glass (example I posted a bit ago)
