Yesterday, just as I got set up outside—settled into my chair, out there with mussed-up hair and that cool morning air—I was feeling pretty good. Hmm... I got rolling with that and couldn’t help myself. Anyway, I’d just sat down with my coffee when my wife called. She’d gone to an appointment and realized she’d forgotten some paperwork she was supposed to bring. She asked if I could go inside and fax it to her.

Well, my setup isn’t exactly fax-ready, so I started trying to connect the printer to a phone outlet. That meant moving a few old computers out of the way. While I was wrestling with all that, she decided it was fine to just text her images of the papers. So—okay, done.

It wasn’t until afterward that it hit me: we don’t even have a landline anymore to hook a fax to.
