My son just finished Spiritfarer (I finished it a few years ago) and I was reminded what a wonderful game it is.
If you're not familiar with it, it's a Canadian indie game, and it's basically a management/sandbox game (you need to get things to build things to advance the game). The gaming mechanics are simple and not too repetitive for the most part, but what makes the game magical is the story.
You play Stella, a young woman (and her cat, the cat is playable, although it can't do much beyond cat things) who strikes a deal with Charon. Yes, that Charon. He's ready to retire and he hires Stella to replace him. Her new job is now to ferry dead souls into the afterwords. Not any dead soul, but rather people from Stella's past, starting with her friend Gwen.
I won't tell more. It's a slow game and a slow burn, and the more you play the more you get attached to the characters and understand their past relationships, and telling you more would be spoiling.
Just give it a try if you don't hate management games.
