This guy and the Spectacled Owl have really been bringing a lot of love to the Central American owls lately. People might forget we have some jungles and funky jungle animals in North America, so it's fun to highlight them.

Does any other owl look more like Noctowl?

Maned Owl is the next closest I've got.

Those are some floofy plumicorns!

anon6789@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y

I'm not exactly sure if they are plumicorns.

For one of the recent weird rare owls, I was reading something and it was talking about how it had teeny weeny protrusions, but they were considered brows and not plumicorns. It was the subject or debate for a while, but they ultimately decided plumicorns were back further on the head.

I can't find the reference now, but I'll have to see if I can at some point. I'm traveling right now.

No matter the name, they sure are fascinating!

Buffy Fish / Speccy for the OotY ticket 2026!

Although, obvs Crested could play spoiler . . . Or maybe Speccy's just not into it this year.

I feel we do have some solid potential spoilers this year. The Latin American owls, a bunch of rare Scops's, a bunch more Eagle owls...

They may be camouflage, but that doesn't mean they can't still do it with style!
