So first of all, I hope that there's still people here. I've been listening to ICP and related groups since the mid to late 90s. I stopped keeping up with new stuff so much probably around the 2010s. Still listened to what I knew and would hear new stuff occasionally through streaming services. I recently discovered Alla Xul Elu and Super Famous Fun time Guys and I'm so upset that I'd been missing out on this stuff. I've not felt newer ICP and Twiztid stuff for awhile. A.X.E specifically brings the dark and brutal sounds and themes that the old guard seems to be lacking now. The new generation of artists are the future of the culture and genre. Who else is out there that I might have been missing out on? What do you think about modern ICP, Twiztid, Blaze, etc.? Let's put this comm to use.

You listening to the Boof Boys at all (Klokwerk)? I saw the MNE guys live a few years ago and while they put a good show on, AXE and SFFTG really are carrying what’s left of the old school horror core genre imo

I've heard of Klokwerk, but I'm not familiar. I think maybe I heard Klokwerk on something or maybe saw the name on a promotional thing for camp Xul? What's a good album to check out? I'm impatiently waiting for Billy Obey's Rhymebook of the recently deceased.

MMFCL. I've only been listening to ICP for the last year and a half, but I've been listening to em like every day since I started, usually when in the car. (unless my elderly aunt or my lil cousin is there too...) Like today I listened to most of Yum Yum's Lure again while driving to/from the pharmacy.
weirdly, I don't really listen to any of the other Psychopathic Records stuff. I mean it's all good stuff, it's just not something I wanna hear all the time in the same way as ICP. If I'm listening to anything else, it's !gothindustrial@lemmy.world but that's different.
I kinda like the newer stuff that ICP puts out. I realize it might be different for me bc I wasn't listening to them in the 90s and 00s. And I agree the older stuff is raw in the way the newer stuff isn't. But I kinda like that they try out different styles and more producers and newer ideas, I mean they really are artists, they had to "grow"!

Curious what got you into ICP when your other music is industrial. There's probably a music term for it, but I just prefer the heavier beats of the older stuff. I listened to the entirety of The Naught and just thought it was ok. Just wasn't anything on it that made me want to play it again right away.

Well, the way I got into ICP was, last year January/February I was staying with my cousin who lives in Michigan, and I had to drive across Detroit once a week to take care of some business. So I was like: I should listen to some music from Detroit, right? ofc I knew about ICP but I never listened to their albums so I was like: ok, I'll listen to one of these albums for the lulz, that way I can laugh about it online.
So I loaded up Hell's Pit. I was about halfway thru when I realized the music was legit amazing. I listened to Hell's Pit a couple more times over the next couple days then started listening to Carnival of Carnage. First time I heard that Prince sample on The Juggla I was sold, I almost crashed the car I was so hyped. Since then I've repeatedly listened to the Joker's Cards, the EPs, and many of the rest of their releases. Those are definitely some hardworking guys, they got a lot of stuff out there.
Anyway if you don't like The Naught that's cool, I'm not gonna disrespect the judgment of someone who's been with them since the start. Personally I think Throw Em Up , Here we Go , and While it Lasts are some of the best songs they've made.

That's cool that you ended up getting into them by kinda random chance. I think a lot of people just never give them a chance and that's why they have a negative opinion. I don't think the Naught is bad, I just think it's ok. Which is kind of a disappointment by virtue of the album's significance as the sixth jokers card of the second deck. Of course I also didn't like The Wraith: Shangri-la nearly as much as I like Hell's Pit. So that's just how my preferences fall.

whoop whoop! tell ya what. I'll commit to posting once a week. I'll start out by going through the ICP albums and picking my favorite songs, as a basis for discussion. I also have a couple links to relevant movies and documentaries that i can post. I'll also advertise the community a bit throughout lemmy.
If you can post at least once a week, we'll have a basis to see if other people join in. If you can't think of anything to post, just look for memes or pics to put here. We can try it out for a month or so and see what happens. how's that sound?
