My late father actually made something very similar, but he used a black barrel to catch more heat from the sun for warmer water, and had the upper side of the barrel cut open to catch rain water.
He also didn't install privacy walls, it was just a cut open black barrel, bare minimum plumbing, and metal pipe and clamp framework recycled from discarded antique playground equipment or something. But still built very similarly, his plan for privacy was just to hang a tarp around it.
I don't think he ever actually used it though, but he may have at some point, I was away for a few years..
