It's my old lemm.ee account, since the instance is dead it makes little sense to keep the account as a mod there, but I can't remove it myself since I'm not a higher mod.

It's a good idea, but it would be hard to implement.
For example, how could lemmy tell if an instance is gone forever, or just down for a bit?

I’m more so thinking about deleted accounts. However maybe it can connect to join-Lemmy or fediseer after an announcement is made by the lead admin of the shut down date.
