Hey it isn't like we did nothing for technology. Our leaders withdrew money from NIH blood cancer research programs to fund LLM chatbot AI girlfriend datahouses just half a year ago!
posessing instellar travel/ftl alone is impressive in its own right. Some even intergalatic. and we are debating going back to using gas and coal only energy sources.
Our leaders are literally aliens. I mean the people are flesh and blood human but they represent and work on behalf of an emergent entity, new to this earth, whose values and priorities often run contrary to those of humans and the rest of the biosphere
I'm reminded of an episode of The Drew Carey Show I saw decades ago. I want to say it was the cold open. Aliens take over his workplace. They tell him they're going to make him work slavish hours at a small salary. He considers the first second and ask how long for lunch? Aliens answer 30 minutes or something. He shoots, them with the laser gun he was hiding I think I don't remember, says nobody takes my hour lunch.
