So many studies linked in that article but not a single mention that far UV lamps produce ozone and that's why they're not widely adopted. They also don't filter out particulates so you'd need one system to sterilize the air (that adds a toxic pollutant to it) and another to remove solids even though filtration can do both.

Why is producing ozone bad?

It's an oxidizer and very toxic even in low concentrations. Considered a pollutant in the lower atmosphere.
