Based on the article it appears this recall is for their gas cars. Something with the starter....

The article is frustrating because it doesn't either specify the models and years or link out to a BMW site doing the same. That's kind of critical information you would expect in an article about a dangerous situation.

Edit: USA Today and others did better. It also involves the Toyota Supra!

The recall potentially affects 196,355 vehicles in the following years and models:

2019-2021 BMW 330i 2019-2022 BMW Z4 2020-2022 BMW 530i, X3 and X4 2020-2022 Toyota Supra 2021-2022 BMW 430i and 430i Convertible 2022 BMW 230i Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov starting Nov. 14.

I suspect that gas vehicles went though a phase like this as people transitioned from horses.

This is on gas cars. Short circuit in the starters.

EV battery fires are highly overblown.
