It finally happened.

4 years with this flock. I don't push it with physical contact. But today "filthy phil" decided to patronize the idiot pretending to be a tree. To my utter delight.

I am the hairiest and bikeriest disney princess for sure. Depending on the time of year my morning welcome committee is ~80 blue jays, 60 grackles and blackbirds, a handful of chipmunks, some marmots, rabbits, and 5 or 6 'named' squirrels. The mammals have almost always been sociable and able to be fed by hand, especially the chipmunks, but the birds have always maintained their space. The newest set of babies is the first to let us hang out with them while they eat. And now this...

The thousands of pounds of peanuts, scratch feed, sunflowers, and suet, over the years have finally paid off.

The crows out here are very wary of humans. We leave them peanuts way up on top of an outbuilding, but they won't come any closer.

I remember the time when I was walking within the parking lot at my office and I saw a little canary like bird standing in one of the guard rails. It was looking at me as I slowly approached and it started tweeting instead of retreating. I moved one of my hands slowly towards it, very slowly to avoid startling it and I managed to rub the feathers of its chest for at least five seconds before it flew away. It was quite surreal. I've never pet a bird that wasn't in a cage before like that

That's awesome! I have a pair (Bluejay and Twojay) who have started regularly visiting my feeder this year. They're out there as much as the sparrows and chickadees at this point. They now just chill right above me and wait (relatively) patiently for me to fill the feeder and the bird bath. I haven't tried to get them to land on me yet, but the chickadees are close. I also saw a boreal chickadee for the first time yesterday evening. Cute as a goddamn button and makes a sound like an infant black capped with emphysema.
