Ah, yes, ducking; the Medieval practice of weighing a woman against a duck to see if she’s a witch.

This was more effective than the previous method of building a bridge out of the woman

I've never heard of this, but interesting that in modern times a somewhat similar device is used over a tank of water to douse one's boss at a fundraising event.
