German mayor fighting for life after being stabbed in ‘abhorrent attack’

I heard on the radio that the son was suspect, there was a history of trouble in the family.

So... This is kind of relevant to me since I live in the general area. Does anyone outside Germany care?

To be frank: it seems to me like the article is banking on the culprit being some kind of immigrant. That's the only reason I could see it being in any way interesting internationally: as a thing to point at and say, "immigration bad! germany fucked up!" And that's pretty disgusting in my most humble of opinions.
