In case anyone is worried, I looked it up and you can sleep soundly: Mr. de Montfort survived the Siege of Toulouse, despite the concerning-looking injury. He lived quite the full and happy life, it seems, until the admittedly unfortunate "lance to the neck" incident put a bit of a damper on things.
