TIL the Dutch Grand Pensionary/Prime Minister, Johan de Witt, was killed and partially cannibalized by rioters in 1672

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johan_de_Witt

Allegedly this was the only time a prime minister was cannibalized...?

Also I saw mentions that some of his body remains are still on display at the Gevangenpoort museum in The Hague. If anyone can confirm it I'd appreciate it. Would love to visit (not to eat)

"He was quite a humorous fellow when he was alive"

"How do you know that?"

"He tastes funny"

Thumb and tongue of Cornelis and Johan de Witt are in The Hague, Haags Historisch Museum. (In Dutch:) https://www.haagshistorischmuseum.nl/nl/over-het-museum/collectie/topstukken/tong-en-vinger-van-johan-en-cornelis-de-witt

The english wiki page shows some paintings of the gruesome events.

It was a hate campaign by the predecessors of our royals. Not the best look.
