My cat gets treated like some sort of minor deity. I truly believe they have some sort of hypnosis power. Nothing else can explain why I fawn over her so damn much.

Me, making an unsalted mini burger on a separate pan while cooking dinner.

Friend: What’s that?

Me: The offering for the household deity.

My partner always leaves a portion of her salmon unseasoned as a sacrifice

The funny thing is I actually know you as a human being. I am positive that this is an actual conversation you have had with a friend and not a joke.

I love you so much.

Oh, 100%.

Love you too, friend. Give Una some kisses for me. 😻

I will whenever she comes into my bedroom. Because after the lump in my neck I flucked my back up again. God hates me.

I will be fine tomorrow. It's my fault for taking Advil before I realized how bad it was. Otherwise, I would have put my back cream on it.

Hope you feel better soon 💖

You attribute to cats what humans have done to cats. It's just that humans select the cute ones. After millennia selecting for 'cute', OFC they're unreasonably cute; we selected for it over thousands and thousands of generations.

I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 330d (1 reply)

This is true of dogs. Cats haven’t really changed much through domestication, except for a few modern show breeds.

MotoAsh@piefed.social · 1 pts · 330d

It is also true of cats, regardless of what ignorant people think.

sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 330d (7 replies)

I know this is bs because I desperately want to cuddle with a lynx and would unhesitatingly treat one how I treat my cat.

Also does not explain the european wild cats

MotoAsh@piefed.social · 0 pts · 330d (6 replies)

The cute had to come from somewhere. It doesn't magically remove millennia of selective breeding.

sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 330d (5 replies)

Wild animals weren't selectively bred by humans?

MotoAsh@piefed.social · -1 pts · 330d (4 replies)

Domestic cats aren't wild animals. By definition.

sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 330d (3 replies)

The comment you were responding to was not about domestic cats

MotoAsh@piefed.social · -1 pts · 330d

So are you saying wild cats, that will rip your fucking face off for looking at them wrong, are identical to house cats?

Just a curious question: Why would you decide to get a cat if you didn't like them beforehand?

Stamets@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 10 pts · 330d

Honestly, it seems to be that a lot of people end up with cats by accident. I moved into an apartment with someone else who already had a cat. When we were both leaving, she could not take the cat with her. So I did. In the time that I had lived with both her and the cat, the cat liked me and I liked the cat, but we didn't have that much of a connection. Still loved her and wanted to take care of her, wanted the best for her because she's a living being. But, you know, there wasn't much else. But when I realized that I was going to be taking her, that connection kicked into Overdrive, and now I would shatter mountains just to make sure that she has a better view.

I had nothing but bad experiences as a kid and grew up to find I am extremely allergic to the fuzzy little monsters. Had some allergy test they did with blood work when I moved here, and cats had the scary numbers. Been around a couple I have liked, but the stress of constant hand washing, meds, wheezing, and swollen eyes makes it impractical long term. I appreciate the hell out of friends who go the extra mile to scrub clean guest rooms and basements for visits/parties.

Worst part is my partner is a huge cat person and found out they are allergic too. Grew up with them and everything. We did try and cat sit for a day or two, but I guess it isn't meant to be.

We've always had cats, they've got their cute little claws into me since birth.
