Ideally I would want something that fits well with the aesthetics (late nineties or early two thousands), but I'm open for other suggestions.

Late nineties to early two thousands on an arch-based distro is Ayanami Rei territory for sure
EDIT: could also be Serial Expeirments Lain or Major Kusanagi depending on your age and horniness in asking this question

All excellent choices.

"If only there was some kind of late 90s anime featuring C and lisp that's also heavily associated with linux users."

Jokes aside, Lain.

To match the era the monogatari ladies such as shinobu. Especially since it's such a small laptop.
Or card captor Sakura for 90s.

Not late 90's or early oughts, but I'd put a Vtuber or two on there (personally, I'd do either Fuwamoco or Mel [if Mel were still in Hololive]). Otherwise, because of the ThinkPad, and the OS you're using (which, from my experience, is a huge mistake if you're a beginner to Linux), I remember watching something from the 80's, that being Urusei Yatsura, so maybe Lum if you wanted to go that route. Otherwise, I'd say one of the characters from Rec!.

Lum is more 80s fromTakahashi, Ranma 1/2 and even Inuyasha would work.
msokiovt@lemmy.today · 0 pts · 334d
I hadn't thought of anyone from Inuyasha or Ranma 1/2... as I hadn't watched either of their animated adaptations.
wizblizz@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 333d
All good! Catch the Ranma remake on netflix if you can, it's pretty great
msokiovt@lemmy.today · 0 pts · 333d
Netflix wouldn't work. DRM is what ultimately makes it garbage for me.
wizblizz@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 333d
Of course, that's just the platform its currently on.

It's honestly just a mistake for everyone: https://manjarno.pages.dev/

Lum would be a nice nod to the classics.

OP wanted 90's-early 00's, though I thought 80's could suffice of OP hadn't thought of it. I could try to find someone obscure too, but I think that's pointless for what OP requested.

If youre looking to go less super popular, Armitage III, Ah! My Goddess, Slayers, Macross II are some of my all time favorites!
azimir@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 334d
Anyone from Dragonball.
Or Love Hina. There's some great choices there.

I'm on mobile, and it's far too small for me to read without enlarging. Good to know for the future, though.

Aisha Clan-Clan is a perfect fit. Outlaw Star came out in 1998, about in the middle of the desired time period. The green in her typical outfit matches the green in your terminal.

None.
Just have a big throbbing veiny anime cock spraying cum everywhere.
RickyRigatoni@retrolemmy.com · 1 pts · 332d
I'd go with a touhou character. Maybe Ran Yakumo.

What about the anime version of Keith, the C++ mascot?
