Did they cut the grille bars to save weight, or to just make it look like teeth? Of all the things, I would probably keep the grille to protect the radiator from damage, since if it leaks, there ain't no water in the desert to refill it.

I can't recall where I read it (perhaps in a post on that other site), but supposedly it was indeed done to increase air flow to the radiator.
