Your second sentence is correct. The first is odd. I don't think there's anything Trump has that Mamdani wants, honestly.
The simplest interpretation of the days events is that nothing particularly unpredictable happened.

I know what the simplest explanation is.
Mr. Mamdani may turn traitor. He is admittedly a squish and electoralist. Pure socialists will disagree with him to some extent and that is fine. But he's not going to just take a bag of money from Trump and start fellating billionaires.
