Just so we're clear, he didn't stand up to Trump until Trump offended him personally.

Self-interest is not just the defining feature of conservativism, it is the only foundational value common among conservatives.

Odd that this is where he draws the line, but I'll take anything at this point.

I thought Republicans were against cancelling the word "retard"

"I have been an unapologetic advocate for people with intellectual disabilities since the birth of my second daughter. Those of you that don’t know me or my family might not know that my daughter has Down Syndrome. This is not the first time our president has used these insulting and derogatory references and his choices of words have consequences.”

It's shameful that this guy only balks after Trump uses ablist slurs (repeatedly) that affect him personally, but at least he has a line...

Also worth highlighting the latter part of the first sentence:

I have been an unapologetic advocate for people with intellectual disabilities since the birth of my second daughter.

Before my second kid turned out that way, I didn't give two shits about the disabled. But once it affected me and my family, then I decided to speak up.

I swear, every fucking conservative gives zero fucks about anyone else until they are impacted personally.
