My deep belief is that the entire continent must condemn this assault on Venezuelan oil. It's an important resource, but if we look the other way while resources are stolen like this and crime is committed, the lack of respect for the rules of the game will lead us to authoritarianism. It will also make the citizens of the continent subject to persecution and vulnerable to the abuses of any figure of power with few scruples. In other words, any idiot with a presidential sash could trample on our dignity. This isn't about economics; it's about people's rights, which goes beyond whoever happens to be the leader of Venezuela at the moment. As we know, a long period of dictatorships creates a Supreme Court that is weak and obedient to the terrorists in power and in businesses. It's not what benefits society as a whole; it's just paving the road with gold for upper-class criminals.
