You claim you want to stop child sacrifices, yet you send many sons of Rome to die.

Curious.

Explanation: One of the things that the Romans accused their worst enemies, the Carthaginians, of, was child sacrifice. Notably, this was not a common accusation leveled by the Romans, unlike being not manly enough (or conversely, eating too much meat like a b*rbarian).

However, whether that accusation of child sacrifice was true is a whole 'nother ball of wax, and you can find support in modern academia for both sides of the issue.

It's a good thing nations stopped using the practice of spreading lies about other nations to start a war.

tbf, none of the three Punic Wars started over the matter. It was just one more reason for the Romans to disdain FURRINERS

It reminds me of a fun thought experiment I often have when reading about that history (not that I've done that much reading about it).

How history would have turned out if the Carthaginians had won that conflict

I've heard that one before. It's such a radical idea that we sadly have such a limited ability to examine. I wish we had more extant sources on Carthage, especially since the Romans themselves reference (now lost) Carthaginian sources, especially on agriculture.

I found this book on the topic to be a great read.
