Privacy‑centric doom scrolling apps for iOS and android

I am looking for a free, privacy‑centric app for endless doom‑scrolling that serves as an alternative to Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook—without the need for social connections, or chatting.

If you just want to doom scroll you can use a fediverse app that connects to the microblog side of fedi and just browse the global feed. This will probably work best if you join a big instance that federates with tons of instances

You mean an alternative client for those or a completely different platform?

I mean, it seems like you found it, but if Lemmy isn't your speed, perhaps set up an RSS reader like Feeder and get your doom piped straight in from the source.

ETA: I've got Feeder set up with ~50 sources ranging from general news to science, tech, environment, and FOSS news, and blogs from organizations I support. I've got several hours worth of scrolling (more if I stop to digest more articles) loaded in fresh every day. Thousands of articles in the backlog... I'll get caught up...

Tumblr works well provided you are in to that kind of posting/fandom. They haven't enshittified their web ui, so you can access the website without the use of their app. You can easily sign up with an email alias and use a VPN for location/IP.

Firefox and its forks like Fennec and Iceraven let you install a website as an "app" and the feel is essentially the same (on android, not sure about ios). Slap on Ublock Origin, Privacy Badger, and Noscript and isolate in a sandbox or work profile and you have a pretty good setup, despite using a mainstream service.

There's also the fediverse ofc. Pixelfed offers an experience like Instagram, and Loops is similar to TikTok/Shorts but with smaller communities and creators.
