Something a little closer to home. We lost my father in law last year, my Dad this year, our youngest has gone off the rails, our savings are shrinking, and I recently became a burn victim. But I'm trying...
Had to visit the burn unit yesterday, turns out burns keep getting worse for up to 72 hours. Hopefully scaring will be minimal.

Fuck, that's a rough couple of years. Sorry to hear you've been in the wars. Hopefully things get better for you sharpish. I love your work, by the way!

Thank you! I imagine they will, just hard to see it right now.
And why would someone down vote you...?
rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 272d
Oh I'm not being downvoted, I just remove the automatic self-upvote π
BallShapedMan@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 272d
Ohhh... Got it. I should have thought of that.
rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 272d
Oh nah, you shouldn't have thought of that! It is way more normal that somebody would downvote innocuous comments than a commenter would manually remove the upvote from their own posts and comments!
Hey, by the way, have you had any thoughts about any next person lined up for a series like you did for Jack Black or Samuel L Jackson? π Those were so inspiring to follow along with!
BallShapedMan@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 272d
Fair point.
And I haven't but my friends think I should do a whole series of sexy Grinch images to sell on DeviantArt lol. I don't think I have that in me.
I normally do those when I'm trying to work on drawing people from real life which I'm not working on right now. The live model sessions start up again in February or March and I'll pick it up again at that point I imagine.

I'm sorry to hear this, my friend! Here's hoping the scarring won't be too bad, as you said. Hope painkillers help with the pain a bit!
BallShapedMan@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 272d
Thank you! I've broken down and taken a few ibuprofen. Takes the edge off enough.
The best part was when the RN and the burn unit asked me if I have any allergies. I said "I'm having a topical reaction to my InstaPot" and she replied "is it a burning sensation?"
Perfect comeback, no notes!

Oh wow, it's been a tough cycle for you! I am so sorry, I hope things improve quickly and that you heal well.
BallShapedMan@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 272d
Me too, thank you! I get to wash my wound for the first time this afternoon... Fuck me right?
Maeve@kbin.earth · 3 pts · 272d
You are welcome! Ow. Did they give you something special to use, hopefully liquid?
BallShapedMan@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 272d
They just said gentle soap and gave me stuff to put on after.
Maeve@kbin.earth · 2 pts · 272d
If you can swing it, I recommend castille soap in liquid form. Otherwise wash your hands and the bar, rinse, then suds the bar with your hands and let the suds wash over the wound. If you can stand it, a light rub with your hands. NGL, it's not going to be a pleasure cruise. Maybe take some Tylenol about a half hour before, barring contraindications, unless they gave you an opiate, then take it first, instead.

Survived, my wife was an absolute badass!
BallShapedMan@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 272d
I don't know that long C word... My wife says it's when drugs cancel each other out.
And I've already taken ibuprofen and plan to just muscle through it. I could use a good cry!
Maeve@kbin.earth · 2 pts · 272d
You've done well! Cry if you need to, no shame in it

I hope you heal alright and that things ease up a bit and go more smoothly, it sucks to hear it's continued to get worse since the initial accident

Man I am sorry about everything youβve been through but this, this here, is amazing. Really love your craft here. The expression on his face chefs kiss. Really good that wistful, sad, resignation, I donβt know how to explain it but so so good.
BallShapedMan@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 272d
Thank you on both accounts! That's what I was trying to go for in his expression. I'm glad it landed!
