hey there. good to see this community on the fediverse. I guess the best introduction for a ul'er is sharing their lp. this is me: https://lighterpack.com/r/smbf7q

hihusio@kbin.social · 3 pts · 3y (2 replies)

hihusio@kbin.social · 3 pts · 3y

Hi, moving over from Reddit. I'm not ultralight by far (base weight is 17 lbs) but I'm always looking for fun hikes and ways to shave a few lbs/oz/grams off my gear.

milescrusher@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y

hello and welcome! we'll help you find ways to cut weight inexpensively :)

Looks like it’s about hiking without lugging around tons of gear.

milescrusher@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 3y (1 reply)

Hello! Not ultralight, but working my weight down a little at a time. I’m a petite person, so I don’t really have much of a choice haha. I like to get ideas and tips from the ultralight community from time to time :)

milescrusher@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y (3 replies)

hello and welcome! where was your last trip? anything fun planned?

kiyoomii@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 3y (2 replies)

Thanks! My last trip was near Baker Lake. My next one is going to be near Packwood! I just started backpacking last year, and I’m slowly getting out there.

milescrusher@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y (1 reply)

WA state is beautiful, I've hiked through it on the PCT and would love to go back one day! How was Baker Lake?

kiyoomii@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

It was gorgeous during the day. We were right by the lake and got some great views. At night, we had a sudden thunderstorm pass through (with tons of rain and lightning ofc). Definitely an experience to remember!

Hey! Already got some hikes in this season and more planned (Intermountain West USA). I also created the community !wilderness_backpacking@iusearchlinux.fyi if anyone wants to check it out.

Right now I'm working on my towel situation. Testing out various fabrics for a better, lighter, faster drying towel then my current microsuede one from a few years ago.

miles@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y (1 reply)

hello and welcome! the best map I've seen so far of the Intermountain West was from Peakbagger, which range do you call home?

CherenkovBlue@iusearchlinux.fyi · 2 pts · 3y

Ha, that's funny. Statewise, I'm in a state that's considered Intermountain West. Range-wise, according to that map, I'm in the Rockies. Tetons, Winds, Sawtooths...etc are where I typically go.

My people! Glad to see my namesake community. Kidding, I will post my lighterpack eventually but with wife my priorities have changed. Tried to show her the UL ways but she requires a number of backcountry comforts.

miles@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y (1 reply)

wow great name πŸ‘‘ with that name it feels like you really should have a lighterpack locked and loaded 😜 i too am working on a kit for trips with my partner, i've been thinking an MLD Duomid might be in our future (i like a tarp for solo trips)

ultralight@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y

Great rec, I may need to get this too. Hopefully will manage the dog

miles@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 3y
