I keep unintentionally posting AI music. So I searched and found this tool. It should help, anyhow I figure some of you will appreciate it.

I guess the way I've been avoiding AI songs is:

I often listen to twitch streams, and if I like a song I'll find it on bandcamp or youtube and save the link to post here. so the twitch DJ and audience is one check.
on the bandcamp/youtube page, I'll check out their older songs to see if there's lore or anything I recognize. (if they have stuff that came out pre-AiGen, that's a big indicator)
I usually do a quick search for tour info or articles. mostly I do that bc I want to find out more about the band, but it also helps avoid AI

TBH the only time I've come across AI stuff is sometimes youtube recommends it to me.

Guilty, I comb YouTube sometimes if I don't feel like doing it my other ways.

As a DJ one of the best indicators are robust social media presence. The more personal the better. If there's nothing but a sterile business only acct beware. It's not a 100% thing. Plenty of us aren't fond of the socials. But typically speaking this genera is more passion than business, and it will find a way to show.

I was a bit wary of a band called Midnight Darkwave, found them on YouTube. There was a similarly named YouTube channel that was clearly using some gen AI. At least for visuals looping under the music. No band camp presence. And the mastering of the tracks triggered a feeling of AI. I dug a bit and found their insta. With clips of them playing etc. Mostly in studio, but convincing enough. That's the best and only real way.

That might change in the near future, I read an article about people trying to pitch "AI actors" and one of the "benefits" they touted was that the AI would allow for increased engagement.

Then we will just have to up the ante for burden of proof. Live shows at recognizable clubs. With testimonials from people we know and generally can trust.

Yeah, the pity is that all the AI slop makes it harder to find less-known bands in other countries. Like one of my fave Twitch DJs does sets of darkwave/post-punk acts from a given area (like Latin America, SE Asia, etc) and he'll seek out newer unknown acts on bandcamp. idk if a lot of AI slop presents itself as being from, say, Brazil but it seems a likely next step for them to do.

Yeah, it definitely sucks. Especially since there are some good goth/postpunk bands from Brazil like Plastique Noir. And others like La Bande-son Imaginaire from Mexico. Posted a video of there's a while back and it got a lot of push back because they used gen AI to evoke a lovecraftian dreamlike feel. They have plenty of other videos from long before gen AI was a thing. And used it creatively the one time they did use it. But yeah it got plenty downvotes.

Sometimes you just hear something you like. A lot of people are very casual. And as hermit said. The AI aspect is a very new concern. I tend to go deep looking through discographies etc. But even I've stepped things up a bit more in recent years.
