There is a keyhole on the right side of the door; I wonder if it is locked, and if so, if OP would be given the key (or at least a specific book) upon request.

I think it was locked. To my shame, I didn’t check. There were about four of them flanking the elevators, so the intention seemed to be decoration.

Koreans love using books to decorate, this is a library inside a mall (COEX Starfield Suwon). Good luck checking out some of those books haha, looks really cool tho.
