China figured out how to sell EVs. Now it has to deal with their aging batteries.

It’s just a big opportunity that hasn't been fully taken yet, because the batteries turn out to have a much longer lifespan than the naysayers predicted.

I look forward to one day have a cheap-ish repurposed EV battery backing up the household or local retail (since I am rural and we get storms), or an array ensuring the local pumping station doesn't need a generator.

Used batteries will enhance resilience, so all societies need to invest in public support for recycling and repurposing infrastructure and regulations that enable small local facilities.

Newer vehicles will have the inverters too, so taking one apart will have the full infrastructure for a backup power source. Older batteries are already being used for this sort of purpose at least in the Nordics.
