I can't personally remember any occasion when an active astronaut was this blunt, except a few months ago where he said the same kind of thing to a room full of children! (At some point during this IIRC.)
I'm guessing these kinds of risks are foremost on his mind. (Here's a critic's summary of much of the criticism of Orion. Haven't read it myself, just heard the writer discuss some of it on a podcast.)

I hadn’t seen that article from Berger, that he was actually brought in to observe the meeting Isaacman held after being appointed. Fascinating stuff.

Yeah, that's a great move for public trust. Granted, that's probably a total of a few thousand nerds sweating about heat shield damage. But we appreciate it!
