12-year-old Masha Moskalyova from Yefremov, Russia, was reported by a classmate who saw her anti-war drawing. The school principal called the police, and her father, Aleksey, was detained and found guilty of 'discrediting' the Russian military.
Masha was sent to an orphanage and then to her mother's family, with whom she had not communicated for seven years. Aleksey was released in October 2024, after serving two years in prison. Due to multiple threats from FSB and police surveillance, the family fled Russia the same month.
