We do have trains, but they're primarily for commercial shipment instead of passenger rail.

Our cities used to have decent passenger rail, and even decent inter-city passenger rail, but then the auto industry happened...

Even then, routing a trip around the rocky mountains or south from the great plains is unnecessarily brutal.

Basically, Chicago IL has decent trains and nobody else.
