My first attempt at knitting without a pattern

This is my second ever finished project! I learned how to knit in December and I've been obsessed. I planned out the overall idea for this handbag and then improvised once I got started. I'm absolutely thrilled with the result. Right now I'm debating on whether to give this to my wife or keep it for myself even though I don't think I'll use it often. Yarn is James C Brett Marble, knitted on 4.5 mm needles

Did you find it to be a fragile/fiddly process to add the zipper?

A bit fiddly for sure. I threaded sewing thread through the stitches in the cast off. It wasn't very secure so I glued the back of the stitches. Not sure if that was the best method but it feels better now 🤷🏻‍♂️
