Each one individually says, "I'm an exception - to get elected, I'll just hammer the stake into the heart of American democracy a little," somehow ignoring the thousands of other Republicans with their hammers waiting nearby.
Then of course when American democracy's corpse is lying bloody and lifeless on the altar, they go all shocked Pikachu, take no responsibility, and change nothing.
