Intersting, I didn't even notice that. Did a quick search of hit. It's the logo of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) founded in 1895. (5 years after Idaho was added as a state) I'm not US-American enough to know how and when the thirteen colonies are used, but I guess it had something to do with that.

It's just the union flag, when on ships or land. Union jack is when it appears in the corner of another flag, like on old Canadian flags and current provincial ones, aus, NZ, a bunch in the carribean, etc.

Well, they're not skiing down Mt Etna on Sicily. It's in Cortina d'Ampezzo, in the very North of Italy in the dolomite Alpes at 1200m above sea level.
A few years ago they had the WO in Russia, a famously cold country, but in the city of Sochi, which is on the black sea cost and warmer than Cortina d'Ampezzo.
